MOSCOW, July 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian youth basketball team won the European Championship after defeating the Latvian team in the final game, 61:53.
The highest scorer in the game was Latvia's Renaldas Seibutis with 17 points. The highest-scoring players on the Russian team, coached by Yevgeny Pashutin, were Anton Ponkrashov (13 points) and Nikita Shabalkin (12 points).
The team from Serbia and Montenegro won the bronze after defeating the team from Israel.
The European youth basketball championship (for ages 20 and below) was first held in 1992. Russia had never won any medals until now.
