Speaking about the reasons behind the latest reshuffles in republican law-enforcement bodies, the minister said that those dismissed were just not up to the challenge of combating terrorism.
"The dismissed officers are good professionals and experienced executives," Magomedtagirov said. "But they weren't energetic enough in cracking down on criminals." He also said that the crime situation in Dagestan was "difficult, but manageable."
Since the beginning of this year, 58 terrorist acts have been perpetrated in Dagestan, including 40 in the capital of Makhachkala.
Makhachkala police chief Yusup Abdulayev and the heads of two local police departments were sacked in early June; one other high-ranking police officer retired.
Magomedtagirov conceded that Daghestan's law-enforcers had so far been unable to track down the terrorist gang operating in Makhachkala.
