"We regard this as an important step toward stabilization in the country, resolution of the problems in Lebanese society, and national mutual understanding," ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said.
He said the Lebanese government was facing difficult tasks, including the preservation of inter-religious accord, establishment of mutually beneficial relations with Syria, and socio-economic reforms.
"We wish the Lebanese government and the friendly Lebanese nation success in accomplishing these tasks which are essential for the peaceful democratic future of this country," Yakovenko said. "We are ready to promote cooperation with the Lebanese government in the interests of our countries, for peace, security, and overall Arab-Israeli reconciliation."
The new government, headed by prominent Lebanese politician Fuad Siniora, was formed Tuesday after consultations with the country's leading political forces.
