MOSCOW, July 26 (RIA Novosti) - An exhibition designed to mark the 750th anniversary of Kaliningrad is being held at the Stadthalle Museum in Kaliningrad, the Museums of Russia website (www.museum.ru) announced.

Kaliningrad, once known as Koenigsberg, is the western gate of Russia. Founded more than seven centuries ago on the territory later called Eastern Prussia, the city bears the signs of various epochs and cultures. In 1945, after the end of World War II, a third of Eastern Prussia, along with Koenigsberg, became part of the Soviet Union in accordance with the Potsdam Accords.

The museum exhibit, A Trip from Koenigsberg to Kaliningrad, displays the sculptures of Soviet revolutionaries and politicians by Kalinin (after whom the city was renamed in 1946), and sculptures of Lenin beside monuments to the German philosopher Immanuel Kant and dramatist Friedrich von Schiller.

The exhibition includes several venues. The first hall is devoted to photographs by Vladimir Voronov devoted to the city's history from the time of its founding to the present.

The second hall hosts a display of the city's image from a synchronic and diachronic perspective. Visitors can view works of art, graphics and decorative and applied art. Seventy artists and artistic teams contributed to this project.

The third hall features household and religious items from the antique saloon "Old Koenigsberg", dating back to medieval times.

The exhibition runs through September 1.
