KISLOVODSK (Northern Caucasus), July 29 (RIA Novosti, Edgar Saroyan) -Chechen militants use fake abductions to form illegal armed groups, Russia's Deputy Interior Minister, Colonel General Arkady Edelev, said here during an international conference on the Increased Role of Law Enforcement Bodies in the Protection of Human Rights in the Chechen Republic.
According to Edelev, 67 people that allegedly had gone missing turned up in the ranks of militants. At the same time, bandits have accused security-related agencies of kidnapping local residents, the general said.
"Militants have started again to use abductions in Chechnya for their selfish purposes," he said.
He also said 90% of the criminal cases related to the abduction of local residents had been filed in Chechnya only since 2000, when federal forces entered the territory of the republic.
