TBILISI, August 1 (RIA Novosti, Marina Kvaratskhelia) - A convoy of the 12th Russian military base in Batumi left north Georgia, a source in the Georgian Interior Ministry said Monday.

The convoy will travel to Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia, a Russian republic in the North Caucasus.

Russia is withdrawing military hardware and troops from Georgia under an agreement concluded by the two countries on May 30 in Moscow.

Under the agreement, Russia should withdraw most of its military equipment, including 40 combat vehicles, from the Batumi military base by September 1, 2005.

Georgia's Defense, Foreign and Justice ministries have provided the group of Russian troops in the Caucasus region with all the necessary documents allowing large Russian landing craft into the port of Batumi and military property to be withdrawn. The first such vessel will arrive in the port on August 8.
