Putin arrived at the residence from the Turku airport. Halonen and her husband, Pentti Arajarvi, greeted Putin on the porch of their gray granite villa.
Putin handed white and red roses to his Finnish counterpart. The two leaders were then photographed and spoke in English for several minutes before entering the villa.
Halonen's summer residence is located in southwest Finland, near Turku, St. Petersburg's twin-city.
Putin visited the residence once before during his first visit to Finland in 2001.
A Kremlin source told RIA Novosti that "the presidents would compare their approaches to key bilateral, European, and international issues and outline strategic goals for the further development of Russian-Finnish good-neighborly relations." The agenda also includes issues of economic cooperation ranging from the energy and transportation sectors to high technology and telecommunications.
