TEHRAN, August 2 (RIA Novosti, Nikolai Terekhov) - America's positions in the Middle East have been seriously weakened, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said during talks with Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanon-based party Hezbollah.
He said the Americans had suffered a defeat in Iraq, and their failure in Lebanon and Iran confirmed the poor state of U.S. affairs in the region.
Khamenei added that a "new situation" had emerged in the Middle East. Any further development of events in the region will largely depend on how the situation is assessed and the steps that are subsequently taken, the Iranian leader said.
