* Belgian Defense Minister Andre Flahaut will embark on the business part of his official visit to Russia. He will meet his Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov and Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu. The Belgian minister will also visit the Academy of the General Staff later in the day.
* The Ministry of Education and Science will host a roundtable, Research Organizations and the Market: Effectiveness in Innovation, organized by a foundation of the Center of Economic Research and Economic Information, Open Economy (10 am).
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry will host a roundtable, Information Technology in Russia: Realities and Modern Challenges. It will be organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation Council (upper house), and the Foundation for Regional Development. The roundtable will include President of the Chamber Yevgeny Primakov and Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Alexander Torshin (1pm).
* RIA Novosti will host news conferences:
- with Alexander Lebedev, the deputy chairman of the Duma Committee for the CIS and Russian Diaspora Relations and the coordinator of the inter-faction parliamentarian association, Stolitsa (capital). Lebedev will speak about a list of candidates to the Moscow City Duma (legislature) (11am);
- "Church and ethnic relations," a news conference addressing resolution to ethnic conflicts and the relations between ethnic communities and groups in Russia (11am).
* A news conference devoted to the establishment of a public committee, Moscow-2005, for legal and honest elections will be held in Moscow. The conference will bring together representatives of 11 political parties and public organizations of Russia (10.30am).
* Alexander Deineko, the director of the foundation for pipe industry development, will hold a briefing on the work of Russian pipe making plants in the first six months of 2005 (midday).
* Alexei Mikhailov, the head of the department for Moscow computer provision, will give a news conference highlighting the work to implement the state targeted program, Electronic Moscow (3pm).
* The Leningradsky railroad station of Moscow will present its first high-speed hotel-train, Grand Express, Moscow-St. Petersburg-Moscow (10am).
* A children and youth Greco-Roman wrestling team from Chechnya will give a news conference. The team won third place at the mini-Olympic Games in the Netherlands on July 29-31 (midday).
YAKUTSK (Eastern Siberia)
* Deputy Transport Minister Alexander Misharin will continue his working visit to Yakutia (a republic in the Far East). The purpose of his trip is to inspect the transportation sector's development in the republic.
VLADIVOSTOK (Russia's Far East)
* A delegation of the Heilongjiang province's military district of the People's Liberation Army of China and the Border Department of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) for Primorye (the Far East) will hold a working session to review joint efforts and outline the major avenues of cooperation in 2005-06.
The CRIMEA (UKRAINE)
* Ukrainian-U.S. military training, Peace Shield 2005 (August 3-13), will begin at the military firing ranges in the Crimea.
OSLO
* Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev, currently on a visit to Norway, will attend the opening ceremony of the Tall Ships Race - 2005 regatta. The Russian delegation will give a reception onboard the Kruzenstern ship after the ceremony.
ER-RIYADH
* The coronation ceremony for new Saudi King Abdallah will take place.
Speaker of the Federation Council (Russia's upper house) Sergei Mironov will represent Russia at the ceremony, expressing official condolences to the new king.
