ROSTOV-ON-DON, August 5 (RIA Novosti) - Two people died and 17 are still missing in floodwaters of the mountainous Mzympta River near the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi, a local interior ministry officer said. Eighty people trapped by floodwaters were evacuated from the area, an emergency ministry spokesman said.

"The death toll is being clarified. The search and rescue operation continues," the spokesman said.

Witnesses said about 17 people were riding three catamarans on the river en route from Sochi's suburb of Adler to the mountain resort of Krasnaya Polyana (Red Meadow) when the vessels overturned.

The flooding was caused by heavy rains. At the moment, floods have receded, the spokesman said.
