"The vessel has been examined with video cameras and the HQ has reliable information on its condition and location," Alexander Dygalo, a spokesman for the Russian Navy, said adding that the crew had enough food and water for five days.
The spokesman said that during a regular mission in Berezovaya Bay, 75 kilometers (about 40 nautical miles) north of regional center Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the AS-28 deep-sea vessel had become caught up in a fishing net.
The rescue operation involves 10 ships, including the Kozmin and the Alagez rescue ships, and the Sayany rescue ship, which is heading to the area from Russia's Pacific port of Vladivostok. A Japanese rescue ship, the Chieda, is also heading for the bay to take part in the operation, which is under the command of Rear Admiral Alexander Zaika, the officer said.
