Nizhny Novgorod, August 5 (RIA Novosti, Zhanna Voronova) - Nizhny Novgorod's business community has welcomed President Vladimir Putin's nomination of Moscow Vice Mayor Valery Shantsev for regional governor, the speaker of the regional legislature told reporters Friday. "The nomination of Valery Shantsev for the post of Nizhny Novgord governor has been welcomed by the regional elites, [specifically] the business community. During the two-day consultations held by the candidate in Nizhny Novgorod, a very positive appraisal was given to him," Yevgeni Lyulin said.
Putin nominated Shantsev for the post of Nizhny Novgorod governor on August 3. The regional parliament will vote on the issue at a special session Monday, August 8.
Lyulin said he was almost certain the parliament would support Shantsev and give him the post. "I don't want to speak for every deputy, but we'll have a [new] governor Monday. The vote will be open," he said.
If confirmed, Shantsev will be sworn in later on Monday, incumbent Governor Gennady Khodyrev's last day in office.
