MOSCOW, August 5 (RIA Novosti, Olga Grinkrug) - The Russian winners of Microsoft's Imagine Cup 2005 say their virtual orchestra pit can host musicians from around the world.
"Our program allows musicians to play together via the Internet," said team member Alexander Popov. "Musicians can play if they connect electronic instruments or microphones to a computer. They also can visit virtual studios."
Popov also said the softeware provided a new advantage for beginners.
"You do not have to rent special apartments or studios," he said.
About 17,000 students from 92 countries participated in the competition, held in Japan.
A Russian team from the Bauman Moscow State Technical University took second place in the Office Applications category.
The competition was held for the third time in nine categories, including software and web design, office applications and short movies.
Microsoft also organized competitions for children, in which students from Rostov in Southern Russia won third place.
