UPDATE: Sergei Kirdyapkin wins gold for Russia in Helsinki

MOSCOW, August 12 (RIA Novosti) - Sergei Kirdyapkin has won Russia's second gold medal in the 2005 International Association of Athletics Federation World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki, winning the men's 50-kilometer race walk.

The 25-year-old sportsman won with a time of 3 hours, 38 minutes, 8 seconds.

Another Russian, Aleksei Voyevodin, was 3 minutes 17 seconds behind the winner and won a silver medal.

Italian Alex Schwazer took third place with a time of 3 hours 41 minutes 54 seconds.

Russia has so far won two gold medals at the championships. The first was won by Olimpiada Ivanova on August 7, the second day of competition.

Russia currently holds second place in the unofficial medals standings, having won a total of ten medals (2 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze). The U.S. is the clear leader having won eight golds.
