The ministry's Information and Press Department said, "we supported the resolution because we deem it necessary to create conditions for easing tensions and resuming negotiations."
According to the ministry, negotiations will work towards finding solutions that meet Iran's interests, and in particular, build confidence around its nuclear program.
The Foreign Ministry said Russia was prepared to facilitate the process.
Earlier, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution drafted by the "EU troika" (France, Britain, and Germany) that expressed serious concerns over Iran resuming its nuclear developments.
The document also urged Iran to suspend nuclear efforts that could be used for military purposes, including at the Isfahan nuclear technology center, which resumed work on August 10.
