GROZNY, August 14 (RIA Novosti) - Five Russian soldiers were killed and another two wounded in the southern region of Chechnya in the early hours of Sunday, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.
The men were responding to an attack on the home of a local official. Colonel Alexander Kayak, military commander of the Chechen region of Urus-Martan, died along with four soldiers. Two other soldiers were wounded.
The local official's house was burned down. The attackers took away one of his sons. His other son opened fire on the militants, killing one and wounding two attackers.
An operation is currently underway in the Urus-Martan region to locate the attackers.
