MOSCOW, August 15 (RIA Novosti) - The 10th World Championships in Athletics, which ended in Helsinki Sunday, were successful for Russia, a Russian sports official said.
"We have to say the results of the World Championship in Helsinki were good," said Valentin Balahnichev, the head of the Russian Athletics Federation.
The Russian national athletics team took 20 medals, including seven golds.
Russia finished second in the unofficial team table. The United States led the 196 participating countries with 25 medals, including 14 golds.
Russian athletes set two world records: Olimpiada Ivanova in the 20km walk and Yelena Isinbayeva in the pole vault.
In all, 100 athletes represented Russia, 38 men and 62 women.
