"We are suggesting building a modern armaments exhibition center at the airfield in Zhukovsky, which could be used both to host air shows and exhibit weapons," said Sergei Chemezov, the general director of Rosoboronexport.
Chemezov said the center will be success and enjoy popularity because it is well known among experts around the world as the site for the MAKS air shows. New testing grounds and stands for visitors will have to be built at the airfield in Zhukovsky to implement the idea, he said.
Chemezov said the seventh MAKS air show had a record number of participants, 654 companies from 40 countries.
Earlier, Boris Alyoshin, head of the Federal Industrial Agency, said the government planned to establish a free economic zone in Zhukovsky as part of the MAKS air show.
"We are planning to build a modern complex...expand the airfield and create a brand new terminal here [in Zhukovsky]," he said at a meeting of a joint Russian-U.S. working group on commercial projects in the aerospace industry. "Most probably, it will be organized in the form of a free economic zone."
