Russian president to call Chechen parliamentary elections on November 27

BOCHAROV RUCHEI (SOCHI), August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to sign an order calling Chechen parliamentary elections on November 27.Chechen President Alu Alkhanov told Putin Sunday that the republic's parliamentary elections could be held on November 27.President Putin approved the date and pledged to sign the relevant order. Given that there is no duly elected parliament in the republic, the Russian president is the only one who has the power to call the first parliamentary elections. Putin said he expected the elections to become "another serious step toward the republic's political settlement". He added that the Chechen parliament must represent all the political forces which aimed the republic's revival, no matter what their political creed might be.
