MOSCOW, August 22 (RIA Novosti) - Kyrgyz Prosecutor General Azimbek Beknazarov cancelled a warrant for the arrest of the country's former prime minister, Nikolai Tanayev.

"He made this decision after meeting with Tanayev in his office in Bishkek on Monday," Tanayev's lawyer, Maxim Maximovich, said Monday by phone.

The ex-premier arrived in Kyrgyzstan Monday morning to meet with senior prosecutors and investigators.

The prosecutor general's office issued an arrest warrant charging Tanayev with abuse of office May 30. Interpol refused to issue an international arrest warrant.

Tanayev is accused of issuing a government order to transfer 40 million soms ($1 million) to the account of a construction firm owned by his son.

"Furthermore, Tanayev made the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection put funds on this account every month," the prosecutor general said in early June.

Tanayev denied abuse charges saying they were far-fetched. "The parliament and law enforcement authorities repeatedly checked the activity of both the Cabinet and the prime minister and discovered nothing criminal," he said.

After the notorious Bishkek events in March, Tanayev resigned from office and has been living in a rented apartment in a Moscow suburb. His wife lives in Bishkek and works as a teacher. His younger son's family also lives in Bishkek.
