MOSCOW, August 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russian natural gas monopoly Gazprom and Ukraine's oil and gas giant, Naftogaz, are to agree on new terms for Russian natural gas supplies to Ukrainian consumers before September, a Gazprom spokesman said Tuesday.
Sergei Kuprianov, the Gazprom chief executive's press officer, said the company was determined to scrap discounts for natural gas supplies to Ukraine starting next year. He called the step "predictable and market-driven" and said comments by senior government officials in Kiev indicated that they did not consider the move surprising, either.
Gazprom and Naftogaz executives met in Moscow Tuesday to discuss the transportation of natural gas from the Central Asian republic of Turkmenistan. They agreed that transit fees both through Russia and Ukraine should remain the same.
