QINGDAO (China), August 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov highlighted the role of strategic aircraft in anti-terrorist operations at a press conference in Qinqdao Tuesday, where he had arrived to supervise a joint Russian-Chinese military exercise.
"The use of strategic aircraft in the fight against terrorism will enable us to strike [terrorists], including preemptively, in any of the world's regions," the Russian minister said, adding that he was referring to high-precision strikes rather than carpet bombing. He also emphasized the role of warships in the global fight against terrorism.
Strategic aircraft will be taking part in the Russian-Chinese exercise underway outside Qingdao and Weifang, in China's Shandong province, through August 26. The exercise, codenamed Peace Mission 2005, is aimed at practicing a coordinated response to terrorist attacks.
