MOSCOW, August 26 (RIA Novosti) - A special commission in the Russian far-eastern city of Khabarovsk ordered Friday that 106 cows infected with foot-and-mouth disease be slaughtered, a local agricultural department spokesman said.
The cows, infected with the Asia 1 (FMDV-Asia 1) virus, will be killed within a few hours in the village of Dobrolyubovo, the spokesman said.
Test results are still pending on another 65 cases.
The spokesman said 2,500 cows have already been vaccinated. Moscow is sending another 30,000 vaccines, the official said.
