MOSCOW

* Russian Regional Development Minister Vladimir Yakovlev will preside over a meeting on the strategy of the socioeconomic development of the Krasnodar region, southern Russia (12:00 Moscow time, 8:00 GMT).

* A news conference entitled "The Russian Education System's Readiness for the New School Year" (11:00 Moscow time, 7:00 GMT).

* A public teachers' council will hold a meeting under the aegis of the shadow "popular government," an opposition organization established and headed by Gennady Semigin, a member of the State Duma, the lower house of parliament. The meeting is expected to discuss the most acute problems facing the education system (11:00 Moscow time, 7:00 GMT).

* RIA Novosti will host:

- a news conference, the Political and Humanitarian Lessons of the Beslan Tragedy. It will be attended by Sergei Markedonov, head of the inter-ethnic relations department of the Institute of Political and Military Analysis, and Nikolai Silayev, a senior researcher with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations' Caucasus Research Center (13:00 Moscow time, 9:00 GMT).

- a news conference devoted to the disappearance of Airat Vakhitov and Rustam Akhmyarov, former inmates of the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo, in Moscow (11:00 Moscow time, 7:00 GMT).

* The Russian Supreme Court's military board will consider a complaint against a court ruling on what is known as the Ulman case. On May 25, a military court in Russia's North Caucasus military district acquitted four military officers from Captain Eduard Ulman's unit accused of murdering six civilians in Chechnya.

* Moscow's military court will examine a complaint filed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko's lawyer against Russia's Chief Military Prosecutor's Office, which had declined to provide documents from his client's file for analysis. Russia accuses Timoshenko of bribing Russian defense ministry senior officials into signing contracts that were beneficial for her when she was a business executive.

* A news conference, Russia's Movie Industry Overcoming Crisis, will take place to mark Russian Cinema Day (14:00 Moscow time, 10:00 GMT).

* A news conference, to coincide with the start of Credit Suisse Tour 2005 of the World Orchestra for Peace, will involve Russia's world-famous conductor Valery Gergiyev, Head of the Federal Agency for Culture and Film Mikhail Shvydkoi, World Orchestra Director Charles Kaye, and Credit Suisse executive Joahim Streihel (12:00 Moscow time, 8:00 GMT).

ST. PETERSBURG

* Transportation Minister Igor Levitin will pay a one-day visit to St. Petersburg. Levitin and Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko will attend an opening ceremony of a section of the ring road, review the progress of the construction of the local Pulkovo-Strelnya motor road, and hold a meeting to discuss the Pulkovo airport's development.

MINSK

* Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) experts will hold a workshop to discuss the use of biometric parameters for controlling migration processes.

BEIRUT

* European Union foreign policy chief and EU Council Secretary General Javier Solana will arrive in Lebanon on a one-day visit. He will meet with the host country's president, prime minister, and speaker of parliament.
