MINSK, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian ruble will not be introduced in Belarus on January 1, 2006, the chairman of the board at the Belarusian National Bank said Monday.

Pyotr Prokopovich said the currency issue could only be addressed after the relevant constitutional acts between Russia and Belarus had been adopted and a level playing field for economic entities and individuals created.

"We will not be able to adopt these decisions before the end of the year due to technical reasons," Prokopovich said.
