According to the official, around 6 a.m. (local time) police surrounded a building in the village of Novoterskoye where the terrorists had been hiding. Two of the three terrorists, Beslan Madayev and Islam Dzhumayev, were killed in the ensuing skirmish. Two police officers were also killed in the firefight.
According to police, Beslan Madayev has been personally involved in the execution of federal soldiers and police officers, in addition to teaching terrorist tactics to young people. Dzhumayev was his deputy.
Ruslan Alkhanov, head of the Chechen Interior Ministry, said both terrorists participated in the August 14 attack on the village of Roshni-Chu in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya that left five federal soldiers dead, including a local military commandant.
Alkhanov said the militants were preparing a terrorist attack against the Chechen leadership and planned to use an Igla portable surface-to-air missile system found hidden in a weapons cache.
