MOSCOW, September 1 (RIA Novosti) - Double standards in the fight against terrorism are unacceptable, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday.

"One cannot fight terrorism alone and double standards in this fight are unacceptable," he said.

The minister said the tragic events a year ago in Beslan, North Ossetia, proved it was necessary for the world community to join efforts in the fight against this evil.

"It is necessary to act based on common approaches and reject all forms of terrorism no matter what ideas they try to pursue," he added.

Lavrov attended a Moscow ceremony Thursday to hand over the signatures of the Beslan Appeal to Ossetian officials. In all, 830,000 people from 112 countries signed the appeal.

"All Russian diplomats involved in collecting the signatures realized how important a complex approach in the fight against terrorism is," Lavrov said. "We did what we had to do."

"Unfortunately, we cannot answer personally to all who signed the Beslan Appeal. However, we will consider how to send letters of gratitude through our ambassadors in the countries where those who left their signatures live," Lavrov said.
