"It would be surprising if the court had approved our objection," Konstantin Rivkin, Lebedev's defense lawyer, said. "The judge considers that if the secretary transcribed the witnesses' statement, there could not be any errors."
The presiding judge in the case, Irina Kolesnikova, said in her order that the transcript of the court session was not flawed, as Timofey Gridnev, another Lebedev lawyer, had previously claimed.
Genrikh Padva, the lawyer of Lebedev's former colleague, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, said he had not held out hope that the objections to the court session report would be approved.
The lawyers of the two prisoners are appealing the accuracy of the transcripts of the court session on August 24.
Lebedev's objections, totaling 15 pages in length, cite a number of inconsistencies in the court transcript.
Objections written by the lawyers cover around 150 pages, Rivkin said. "These objections only cover the part of the transcript which we were given," he said.
The lawyers asked for the court session transcript to be corrected using video recording, which has been utilized throughout the past year during court sessions.
"Some witnesses' statements end in mid-sentence and are incorrectly recorded," he said.
Khodorkovsky and Lebedev were accused by the prosecution of fraud and tax evasion. In May 2005, the Meshchansky Court sentenced the two men to nine years in low-security prison. The sentence has not yet come into legal effect, and both men are being held in the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center.
The defense is appealing the sentence. The Moscow City Court said it would review the appeals by September 14.
