WASHINGTON, September 1 (RIA Novosti, Alexei Berezin) - The Russian Consulate in Houston does not know the whereabouts of 80 Russians who might have been in the areas hit by Hurricane Katrina, Russian Consul in Houston Kiril Mikhailov said Thursday.

"U.S. authorities have confirmed the evacuation of 33 Russian citizens from the zone affected by the hurricane...although the missing persons list contains another 70-80 names that have not been accounted for," he said.

"We know that these people were in the area when the hurricane hit, and we are trying to locate them," Mikhailov added.

The consul said several Russians had contacted the consulate, informing officials of their condition.

"We are continuing the search for missing Russian citizens," Mikhailov concluded.
