KAZAN, September 1 (RIA Novosti, Irina Durnitsina) - Two female students from Kazan (the Volga region), who were reported missing in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit the area, have been found, officials from the Russian Consulate General in Houston said Thursday.
A Russian diplomat told the Tatar-inform news agency that the women had been located among a group of 15 people in a safe place. They have food and potable water and do not need medical assistance.
According to the diplomat, the students do not need to be evacuated, although officials are not able to maintain contact with them because there is no electricity in the city and the batteries in their mobile phones need to be recharged.
The diplomats do not have any information about other residents of Tatarstan that might be among the hurricane victims.
