MOSCOW, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian fleet must be present only in regions where it is really needed, newly appointed Russian Navy Commander Vladimir Masorin said Monday.
"We are taking the priorities of the fleet into account," Masorin said. "The fleet must be present in the regions where it is necessary to demonstrate our power and flag."
"I spent half of my service in the southern latitudes, particularly near Africa. Do we really need to be there? I would like to see the fleet in all latitudes, but we need to weigh the feasibility," he said.
