MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - A soldier was killed and seven were wounded when a piece of ammunition exploded at a training field of the Interior Ministry's military unit outside Stavropol in southern Russia Wednesday, the local prosecutor's press center said Wednesday.
The press center said an inquiry had been opened on the grounds of the negligent use of weapons.
Local Health Minister Sergei Vardosanidze said two of the soldiers were in grave condition, one of them having lost a hand.
An official with the Stavropol police said the reason for the explosion was careless handling of an unidentified explosive device.
