BERLIN, September 8 (RIA Novosti) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder told journalists Thursday that the common mission of Russia and Germany was to help peacefully settle international conflicts.
"Historically, both our nations have a common mission - to help settle global and European conflicts by peaceful means," the chancellor said at a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Schroeder called the current meeting with the Russian president historical "not only due to the two important agreements signed here, but rather on the account of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries, to be marked in a few days."
Schroeder said the bilateral agreement on cooperation in fighting children's cancer was an example of true, not "speculative" relations between the countries.
