MOSCOW, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - About $1 billion worth of Russian software is exported annually, up 30% year-on-year, the federal task program "Elektronnaya Rossiya" (Electronic Russia) announced Friday.

The organization's press service, citing a report from a Russian software producers' association, said "the turnover of the largest companies in the sector is about $20-40 million per year. Most companies [in the sector] are small, with an annual turnover of under $1 million.

"As it was previously, the most significant buyers of Russian software are the U.S., Germany and the Scandinavian countries."

The growth in software export provides a boost in terms of expanding software firms and raising salaries for Russian IT specialists.

"Most company bosses are optimistic about the future development of the market and predict that it will consolidate and strengthen. In 2005, the state strategy for supporting IT export and launching a program to create a network of IT parks in Russia was very significant for the sector," the press service said.
