Deputy Prime Minister of Yakutia Vasily Grabtsevich and George Rotsheck represented the parties at the signing of a protocol of intent on timber supplies.
Highlighting the quality of Yakutian timber and its relatively low price, Rotsheck said the timber project would be a long-term venture.
According to the protocol, Yakutia will supply timber to the United States, encouraging the growth of its lumber industry and fostering mutually beneficial consultations.
The spokesman attributed America's increasing interest in cooperation with Yakutia to the republic's expanding railroad network, which considerably reduces transportation costs.
After the protocol of intent was signed, Rotsheck said his company was ready not only to fell Yakutian trees, but also to plant forests to preserve the environment for future generations.
