MOSCOW, September 13 (RIA Novosti) - Police uncovered about 60 drug dens in Moscow in 2005, the Moscow department of the Federal Service for Control of Drugs said Tuesday.
"Of the total amount of drugs consumed in drug dens, methamphetamines accounted for 52%, heroin 41%, and marijuana 7%," department press secretary Maria Lutsenko said.
She added that more than 90% of the people arrested in drug dens were Moscow residents, of whom 80% were unemployed and 20% had a criminal record, including for drug smuggling. The average age of those who ran drug dens was 34 and nearly half of them were women aged 22-29.
"Most of the drugs, ingredients, and strong substances come to the drug dens from legal sources. For this purpose, drug dealers use fake stamps, forms, and recipes," Lutsenko said.
