VLADIKAVKAZ, September 14 (RIA Novosti, Albina Olisayeva) - The North Caucasus Military District commander said mountain troops were involved in advanced training in southern Russia, but complained they had not been supplied enough special equipment.
Special task units and two special task brigades, comprising only contract servicemen, are undergoing standard military training and specialized mountain training in Russia's Krasnodar Territory and Rostov Region. The troops have been outfitted with special light weapons.
District Commander Alexander Baranov said the troops currently deployed in Chechnya were doing their utmost to "block the gangs still active in Chechnya's flatlands and mountains," although they were no longer able to stage massive attacks.
