The main area of cooperation is the construction of housing for Chechen migrants who want to establish permanent residence in Ingushetia and also the support of medical and educational institutions in the republic, Ambassador Erwin Hofer said at a meeting with Ingush President Murat Zyazikov in Magas, the republic's capital.
The Ingush president said the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) played an important role among the other 42 humanitarian organizations currently operating in the republic. SDC helped build 45 houses for Chechen migrants in 2004 and plans to build an additional 45 houses next year.
Russia hopes to eliminate all refugee tent camps on its territory, Zyazikov said. "If we are ever going to have tents, they will be tourist tents," he added.
