MOSCOW, September 16 (RIA Novosti) - Law and order in Palestine will be the focus of the Middle East Quartet's September 20 session in New York City, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Friday.
Mikhail Kamynin said the Quartet of mediators in the Middle East peace process (Russia, the United States, the European Union, and the UN) would discuss technology upgrades and other ways to increase the effectiveness of Palestinian security forces in maintaining law and order in the Gaza Strip following Israel's withdrawal.
The Quartet is also expected to look for solutions to problems related to connecting Gaza with the West Bank, determining the status of the Rafah checkpoint, and reopening the Gaza City Airport, Kamynin said. Bringing about the economic revival of Gaza and the West Bank and making it easier for people and goods to travel throughout the area will be high on the agenda, as well.
