DAMASCUS, September 18 (RIA Novosti, Nadim Zuaui) - Chechen President Alu Alkhanov discussed the situation in Chechnya and bilateral cooperation with Syrian leadership in Damascus, Alkhanov's press secretary said Sunday.
Alkhanov, who is on official visit to Syria, said the Chechen people had voted to be part of the Russian Federation during a referendum in 2003.
Chechens do not want wars, he said. Some emissaries travel around the Arab world posing as representatives of the Chechen people and gather funds for war, he added.
"Chechens do not need money for war because they object to wars and will not wage wars against anybody," he said.
The sides stressed the necessity of a more frequent exchange of delegations to strengthen bilateral relations in economy and investment spheres.
Alkhanov proposed to hold the next meeting of the Russian-Arab Business Council in Chechnya.
