Expert: Ukrainian elections to yield pro-Yushchenko government

MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti, Natalia Belova) - A researcher with the Moscow-based CIS Institute said Monday that next spring's parliamentary elections in Ukraine would yield a pro-President Viktor Yushchenko government.

Frolov said the opposition Party of Regions, led by former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, Yushchenko's pro-Moscow rival in last year's presidential elections, should therefore raise the question of preventing anti-Russian politicians from joining the government.

"Russia is more interested in who the key figures in charge of foreign policy and humanitarian issues will be," Kirill Frolov said.

He said Foreign Minister Boris Tarasyuk, whose views largely contradict Moscow's, would remain in the government, and Mykola Zhezlinsky would be appointed deputy prime minister for humanitarian issues. He expects acting Prime Minister Yury Yekhanurov to retain his post.

Frolov also said the Socialist Party, led by Alexander Moroz, could also be represented in the cabinet.
