BISHKEK, September 19 (RIA Novosti, Yulia Orlova) - Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev dismissed the country's prosecutor general Monday, a government source said without explaining the reasons for the dismissal.
Former Prosecutor General Azimbek Beknazarov was Bakiyev's supporter during the March revolution. After his appointment, he launched a number of criminal cases against former president Akayev's family members and associates.
Beknazarov also spoke against the evacuation of Uzbek refugees (who fled to Kyrgyzstan after the Andijan revolt in May) to third countries, wanting to extradite them to Uzbekistan.
Before the appointment, Beknazarov was a member of the parliamentary opposition.
