KIEV, September 21 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko will decide on the prime minister's candidacy after consultations with leaders of parliamentary factions on Wednesday, a presidential spokesman said. "I will choose the candidacy for premiership on the basis of these consultations," Yushchenko said. Yushchenko said acting Prime Minister Yury Yekhanurov's failure in parliamentary vote yesterday was a planned move.
"It is the first time that such a large-scale campaign was organized in the Ukrainian parliament against a candidate [Yekhanurov]," he said.
Yushchenko said Yekhanurov could "consolidate the majority of political forces." He said neither of the political forces had expressed any complaints against Yekhanurov's candidacy.
On Tuesday, the Ukrainian parliament voted against Yekhanurov as prime minister. The acting prime minister received 223 out of the 226 votes required for approval in the 450-seat parliament.
