VLADIVOSTOK, September 22 (RIA Novosti, Anatoly Ilyukhov) - A joint Russian-South Korean border guard exercise is under way in the Peter the Great Bay off Russia's Japan Sea coast in the Far East, a local spokesman for the Federal Security Service's Border Guard Department said.
The one-day exercise, involving patrol ships and fast patrol boats, poses a hijacking scenario in which the troops must localize, chase and stop the vessel, the spokesman said.
The exercise will also stage a special forces hostage rescue operation, along with extinguishing a fire on the vessel.
Two patrol ships from the South Korean National Maritime Police Agency have arrived in Vladivostok. During the visit, Russian and South Korean delegations are scheduled to discuss cooperation on the fight against poaching and illegal trade, the spokesman said.
