BISHKEK, September 22 (RIA Novosti) - A Kyrgyz parliament member was shot dead early Thursday in the country's capital, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.
Bayaman Erkinbayev is the second Kyrgyz parliament member to be killed in the central Asian republic in three months, the spokesman said.
Erkinbayev had once taken control of the wholesale trade in the Qorasuv region, bordering on Uzbekistan and known for instability and riots stemming from intrigues among various crime groups with economic interests.
About a month ago, unknown assailants shot and killed Abdalim Zhunusov, head of a local movement that claimed to have put the Qorasuv wholesale market in the "hands of the people."
Erkinbayev said earlier he had been attacked once after the "tulip revolution" that ousted former president Askar Akayev.
