MOSCOW, September 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's tax authorities have filed a claim of seven billion rubles ($246.83 million) against Mosenergo (Moscow electricity utility), a source in the tax service said Friday.
The source said the claim was filed this week after checks of tax payments in 2002-03.
The bulk of the back taxes relate to the funds the company wrote off as payment to RAO UES (Russia's Unified Energy Systems), its parent company, and electricity losses.
The tax official said Mosenergo should offer its arguments before October 5. After that, the tax service will have two weeks to decide whether to act against Mosenergo.
The company confirmed the move by the tax service. "We have two weeks to object and we will definitely do so," the company's representative said.
