YEKATERINBURG, October 6 (RIA Novosti, Roman Chuvakov) - All birds at the Utyatskaya poultry factory in the Kurgan region in the Urals are being incinerated following a bird flu outbreak, a local Emergencies Ministry officer said Thursday.
Police guard posts have been set up around the factory. All areas where the birds were kept are being treated with chlorine and doctors are screening the population in nearby villages, paying particular attention to poultry factory workers, the officer said.
So far, 110,000 birds have been burned, of the factory's half million, the Ministry said.
Five other villages in Russia continue to battle with bird flu.
To date, the virus has affected 50 villages in six Russian regions.
