NALCHIK, October 8 (RIA Novosti) -- Two gunmen were detained in a suburb of Nalchik (the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, North Caucasus) who had been preparing a terrorist attack on the city airport, the republic's Interior Ministry said Saturday.
Shortly before, Anzor Zhamgurazov, 33, a radical Wahhabite, was detained in Nalchik. During interrogation he told police that a group of militants was going to stage a large-scale terrorist attack.
Zhamguzarov said he had received a visit from "a certain Zaur Shogenov, who on express orders from Emir Astemirov, demanded a detailed plan of Nalchik airport."
The Interior Ministry source said on Friday, Shogenov tried to escape in a Zhiguli car. Police blocked the road, but the gunman rammed a police vehicle and was going to throw a hand grenade.
"Police opened fire, wounding the suspect in the leg and detaining him," the Interior Ministry official said.
Law enforcement agencies launched a manhunt for other members of the terrorist group.
