MAKHACHKALA, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - Two militants and two policemen were killed in a special operation in downtown Makhachkala, the capital of the North Caucasian Republic of Daghestan, the local Interior Ministry said Sunday.
The militants have not been identified yet.
Previous reports said five militants had been killed in the operation conducted by the republic's Interior Ministry and Federal Security Service department.
Earlier on Sunday, a source in the Daghestani Interior Ministry said policemen were checking houses where militants could have been hiding and fell into an ambush. Two policemen were killed and one wounded.
