VLADIVOSTOK, October 12 (RIA Novosti, Veronika Perminova) - The foot-and-mouth quarantine placed on Russia's Far Eastern Maritime Territory, which experienced an outbreak of the disease in July, has been completely lifted, the territorial administration said Wednesday.
Due to strict quarantine measures imposed immediately after the disease was discovered, the outbreak was localized and cattle in the region have been repeatedly vaccinated so they develop stronger immunity to the disease.
More than 1,700 head of cattle have been slaughtered and buried, the administration said, adding that owners would receive compensation of 2,100 rubles ($70) for small cattle to 14,300 rubles ($500) for cows.
